  • June 16, 2007, The Yard Sale listings are in a new format. In an effort to make posting yard sales easier we have folks hosting yard sales fill out a simple online form that downloads to a spreadsheet display. Depending on your what type of operating system you use (Microsoft 2000, XP, etc.) the spreadsheet may show as an Excel file or in a plain numbered listing.  Just use the column headings to figure out which order the listing is in, simple as that! • November 18, 2006, I was on another web site offering classifieds in the area just to see what others are offering to customers. One of the biggest surprises, and disappointments is the word FREE associated with the "personals" section (yes, I was in the personals....I'm human too!). Thinking it was free I filled out all the requested information with my personal info, picture, etc., which took about 15 minutes, then clicked the "submit" button. Then a screen comes up with "package prices" to utilize this service. Thinking I was "totally skunked" I scrolled down and noticed in small, tincey, wincey font button for a free "limited time" selection. Feeling like I've been mislead on this other web site I promised myself that we would never use "less than honest" methods for getting people to use our service. When it says FREE Classified and Personals....we mean it! We offer FREE services to private individuals. We make our money by selling advertising space....plain and simple. Guess I can't blame some folks who look at me with suspicion when I say we offer "FREE Classifieds." After I take a moment to explain how we do business they usually understand. But after going through what I did today with "so called FREE personals", it doesn't surprise me that people are frustrated with some of the tactics used by folks that are not completely upfront. We work hard to earn your time using www.TheAlamanceTrader.com and strive to list our services "as advertised." If you can offer suggestions of how we can do this better please let us know.
  • November 17, 2006, We have refined the process for business's to order advertising. After clicking on the "Info for Advertisers" button, select the service you want, choose the "Buy It Now" option, which take you to the PayPal web site, then return to the "Info for Advertisers" page (or any other page for that matter) and click on the link as instructed to email us with your order information. You can also call us and we will walk you through the process. Check are also accepted.
  • November 7, 2006, Don't forget to VOTE! It's your right! I know it can be a frustrating experience for some of us....me included. Seems like there are always people on the ballot I've never heard of despite attempting to "do my homework" and find something out about those running. Even if you don't vote for all the open offices you can say you have done your civic duty by giving it your best effort!
  • November 6, 2006, This is the time to start thinking about Christmas. If your like me and wait until the last minute, this is our warning! I won't go as far as to decorate the house and listening to Christmas music. ~Officially I'm personally boycotting radio stations playing Christmas music until after Thanksgiving!~ If you are trying to "make the buffalo scream" budget wise, try cleaning out your home of that stuff you never use and post it on "TheAlamanceTrader.com's *FREE Classifieds!" The FREE Classifieds are also a great way to buy because a lot of folks also sell stuff that still has "new tags" still on the merchandise or in great condition, which can be a great gift for someone at a great price. • October 30, 2006, Check out the Event Calendar for Halloween and other happenings around Alamance County. A lot of the activities are FREE too! Don't forget you can add to the Yard Sale and Event Calendar yourself. Simply go to the bottom of the Calendar page and click on "add/edit." A screen will come up asking you for basic information; where, when, etc. Since this is a volunteer calendar please add a contact number, email and/or web site address so folks can confirm the event (or yard sale) is happening. We always recommend confirming the events prior to attending! FYI, after your finished with the calendar just use your back button to return to TheAlamanceTrader.com!
  • October 28, 2006, Great news for advertisers/business owners, you now can pay via PayPal! I've used this service while using major online auctions. The decision to use this service was easy. We wanted to use a service that many people have grown to trust. Sure we could have used another service that doesn't yield as high a fee, but you don't get the confidence of a widely known brand. With all the scams on the internet it's very important to use reputable services, and that goes for TheAlamanceTrader.com as well.
  • October 22, 2006, We just added information to the E-Classifieds portion of the site. Specifically, in the FREE STUFF category you will find, "Barter, Swaps and Giveaways" added to this category. Bartering has always been popular and particularly with the internet. After reading a article in a business magazine about bartering for services and barter specific web sites it dawned on me that this could easily be integrated into TheAlamanceTrader.com! We are all about adding value to the services we offer through this site. I've come to realize that it's easy overlook this valuable option-bartering, I sure have. Sometimes you can work deals with multiple people to make a trade work. For those of us beginners, an easy way to barter is in the movie, cd, dvd area. Simple make a list of CD's you would be willing to swap and check out what others have through the same system.
  • October 21, 2006, If  you missed the TV show on PBS about the Internet and specifically "Net Neutrality" it was a real eye opener. In a nutshell the problem is that cable companies and telephone companies are trying to have control of the internet and specifically the speed at which various web sites would operate. Not to be confused with the various technologies used to surf the web, such as; cable, high speed, DSL, etc. This would be phone and cable companies deciding what business's can have fast page uploads to the customer or slow page downloads. This would make Yahoo and Google, as an hypothetical example, have to pay big bucks to continue their type of service to the customer at high speed. So what if the controlling cable company owned significant stock in Google they could work a deal for the highest speed internet being available to their web service. The most disturbing fact for small business is that most small companies would be forced out of web based business's because they can't afford the price tag for high speed page uploads. Millions of dollars are being spent to lobby our elected officials to give control to these large cable and telephone companies. On this TV show there where a couple of great examples of low cost web based organizations that have achieved super success despite not having a large cash investment to get started. The best analogy of this point is the American Idol TV series. Basically, the concept of the show allow plain regular people compete for mass popularity based on fan votes. In the truly American fashion, you go out there, try to win the hearts and minds of the customer (the fans) and become an honest "fan driven" (or customer) driven endeavor. What we get a lot of today in music is "corporate music." These music groups put together by big money with their focus groups, image consultants, etc. The same can hold true of the internet, the big money companies control the companies that are allowed to function on the internet. The best judge of what should be on the internet is the customer. Contact your elected officials and remind them that they work for us and that "net neutrality" is an important and should be preserved! Check out www.SaveTheIntenet.com
  • October 19, 2006, There are many improvements to the site. The most notably is the FREE classifieds page! Powered by E-Classifieds, this service offers more features, ease of use and extra dependability (separate server). We have streamlined the use and are now offering FREE listings for all private owners in all categories. That's right! Real Estate and Auto listings are now FREE! We figured, why have some areas free and some not  (private owners). We just keep it simple and keep it all free!
  • October 15, 2006, TheAlamanceTrader.com was out at the Buckhorn Road Flea Market (I-40 Buckhorn Rd. Exit, south one block on left) talking to the small business owners about using our classifieds service. We are offering a limited time FREE Classifieds to small business owners. TheAlamanceTrader.com is all about small business and wants to promote the use of the FREE Classifieds section. Normally there is a fee for business owners but for a limited time you can contact us about placing your merchandise on this web site at no charge.
  • October 5, 2006, Our calendar system is up and running. We are using Brown Bear Calendar service for our Yard Sale and Event listings. The great thing about this system is that you as a community member can post an event or Yard Sale yourself. This will allow immediate posting with no registration delays etc.
  • September 12, 2006, We are running a new special to companies by offering a FREE listing in the business/services section of the classifieds for 90 days! What's the catch? All we ask is that you place a small flyer in your business stating "As seen on TheAlamanceTrader!"  Of course Banner Ads are always available (your logo or we can make you one) for reasonable rates. Check the "Info for Advertisers" selection button to the left.
  • August 2, 2006, Thanks for all the support for TheAlamanceTrader.com! We are working hard to get the site up and running smoothly. It's been about a week since we went live. We're sorry for all the construction to the site. Please don't forget to "bookmark" us for later use, like the *FREE CLASSIFIEDS! We would have preferred to keep it under wraps until the final site was finished. However, all of the operational aspects to the site, or the "behind the scenes" stuff can't be check without being "live."  Look forward to added services such as; a discussion page, a great venue for meeting your fellow Alamance County residence. This site will be operational in just a few days! Stay tuned!

*Except for Real Estate, Service and Business Listings.
